As heavy rainfall continues to soak the Hawaiian Islands over the weekend, residents and visitors alike will need to stay mindful of flooding. Roadway closures and the potential for landslides could also impact the Aloha State through Sunday.

What You Need To Know

  • A Flood Watch remains in effect for the Big Island through Sunday afternoon

  • More flooded areas are expected from heavy rainfall over the weekend

  • Landslides and road closures are also possible

  • A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect for Big Island summits until noon

An area of low pressure will continue to bring soaking rain in over the islands this weekend. Heavy rainfall, and even the potential for some thunderstorms, will raise the likelihood of flooding, especially in low-lying areas.

Landslides will be a possibility on steep terrain, and flooding could lead to road closures. Properties in low-lying spots could see some damage.

A Flood Watch remains in effect for the Big Island through Sunday afternoon.

On top of the Flood Watches, a Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until noon Sunday for the Big Island summits. Cold air and plentiful moisture could bring over a foot of snow. Some significant icing could also occur.

Winds will also be stronger on the mountaintops, where gusts up to 45 mph are possible. This will significantly reduce visibility at times.

The potential for heavy rainfall is decreasing statewide, but showers and thunderstorms may redevelop again over the western half of the state from late Monday into Wednesday
