With much of SoCal facing triple-digit heat starting Wednesday and into Labor Day, some officials are warning residents to take precautions, such as staying hydrated, staying indoors or finding a cooling center during peak hours.

Below are some locations that will open to the public during the heat wave:

Pasadena

The City of Pasadena will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday. The Pasadena Fire Department said they will evaluate whether the center will remain open for additional days.

  • Robinson Park Recreation Center at 1081 N. Fair Oaks Ave.

Long Beach

Those in the City of Long Beach have several options:

  • Houghton Community Center, at 6301 Myrtle Ave., will be open from noon to 6 p.m.
  • McBride (Cal Rec) Community Center, at 1550 Martin Luther King Ave., will be open from noon to 6 p.m.
  • Admiral Kidd Community Center, at 2125 Santa Fe Ave., will be open from noon to 6 p.m.
  • Long Beach Senior Center, at 1150 East 4th St., will be open from noon to 6 p.m.
  • El Dorado Park West, at 2800 Studebaker Road, will be open from noon to 6 p.m.

Los Angeles

In the City of Los Angeles, all public libraries will be available for cooling starting Wednesday and additional centers will be open through Labor Day, according to the LA City Emergency Management Department. The centers will be open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.

  • Lincoln Park Recreation Center at 3501 Valley Blvd.
  • LaFayette Multipurpose Community Center at 625 S. La Fayette Park                         
  • South Los Angeles Sports Activity Center at 7020 S. Figueroa St.                              
  • Jim Gilliam Recreation Center at 4000 S. La Brea Ave.
  • Canoga Park Senior Citizen Center at 7326 Jordan Ave.
  • Mid-Valley Senior Citizen Center at 8825 Kester Ave.
  • Sylmar Park Recreation Center at 13109 Borden Ave.                                 
  • Westwood Recreation Center at 1350 S. Sepulveda Blvd.
  • Westcherster Senior Citizen Center at 7000 W. Manchester Ave.

San Fernando Valley

Those in the San Fernando Valley can head to Las Palmas Park, at 505 S. Huntington St. 

Temple City

Temple City will open a cooling center at Live Oak Park Community Center from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. through Sept. 5.

Palmdale

City of Palmdale officials have announced that the Palmdale City Library, at 700 E. Palmdale Blvd., will be open from 11 a.m. Wednesday through 8 p.m. Sept. 5 as a designated cooling center open to people of all ages. 

Rosemead

The Rosemead Community Recreation Center at 3936 North Muscatel Ave. will be open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday.

Garden Grove

The City of Garden Grove will open a public cooling center from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Monday at the Garden Grove Sports and Recreation Center, at 13641 Deodara Drive.

Irvine

The City of Irvine will only have two cooling centers open during the Labor Day holiday, including:

  • Great Park Visitors Center, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
  • Lakeview Senior Center, noon to 5 p.m.

Ventura County

Residents without air conditioner are being encouraged to seek refuge at the following locations:

  • Camarillo Public Library at 4101 Las Posas Road
  • Kent Hall at 111 Santa Ana St. in Ojai
  • Piru Public Library at 3811 Center St.
  • Simi Valley Senior Center at 3900 Avenida Simi
  • Simi Valley Public Library at 2969 Tapo Canyon Road; will be closed Sept. 5
  • Fillmore Active Adult Center at 533 Santa Clara St.

Those throughout the Ojai Valley have a few options:

  • Oak View Library at 555 Mahoney Ave.
  • Ojai Library at 111 E. Ojai Ave.

City of Ventura

  • Avenue Library at 606 N. Ventura Ave.
  • Hill Road Library at 1070 S. Hill Road
  • Pacific View Mall at 3301 E. Main St.
  • Ventura Aquatics Center at 901 S. Kimball Road

From libraries to community centers, those in the San Bernardino area can find a cooling center on the Inland SoCal United Way website with more than a dozen locations open.
