Summer-like warmth continues through the weekend in Southern California, bringing temperatures in the 80s and 90s even near the beach.
The heat wave began Wednesday and will continue through at least Sunday. A heat wave is defined as a "period of unusually hot weather lasting two or more days" consisting of "temperatures outside the historical averages."
Not only are temperatures 20 degrees above the historical average, they are either breaking or tieing records as seen in the chart below. Saturday was the fourth day of record heat. Sunday will be a bit cooler, but a couple cities will flirt with records.
A heat advisory remains in place west of the mountains through Sunday for the abnormally high temperatures.
Super Bowl Sunday will be warm as well, with an expected high of 85 degrees at SoFi Stadium. Fans coming from Cincinnati will get a nice break from winter, where the forecast high on Sunday is 36 degrees.
An area of low pressure will slide down the western U.S. from the Gulf of Alaska bringing a 20 to 30 degree drop in temperatures from Sunday to Tuesday. This cooldown will take place from the Inland Empire to the Coast.
Rain chances are also in the forecast. If the forecast holds up, this will be the first rain since the middle of January.
