HERMOSA BEACH, Calif. — Several cities have been dealing with electric bicycles and how to regulate them to keep the public safe.

Earlier this month, Hermosa Beach passed an urgency ordinance that further regulates the use of electric and motorized bikes. The ordinance imposes fines of up to $1,000 for violating rules.

On June 8, police say a group of juveniles on e-bikes rode through, and one of them threw a firework into a crowded area in Pier Plaza in the downtown Hermosa Beach area.

Locals say some e-bike riders are nuisances and have continued to cause safety concerns.
