LOS ANGELES — CicLAvia has long been a beloved event for bicycling Angelenos to enjoy miles of car-free streets. Now the organization is launching a series of smaller, pedestrian-oriented events called CicLAminis.

The compact neighborhood routes will take place in new locations around LA this year and “are designed to inspire participants to slow down and enjoy the streets in a more leisurely fashion,” the group said in a statement Monday. Taking place on routes that are one or two miles, instead of the usual 1-1/2- to 7-mile CicLAvias, the all-ages mini events will include self-guided walking tours, scavenger hunts and games as well as arts and cultural activities.

Two CicLAminis are planned for this year, including a launch event in Watts on May 21 and a second one in North Hollywood on Sep. 17.

CicLAvia will hold eight events this year, starting with the Valley on Sunday, Feb. 26, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sherman Way between Canoga Park and Reseda. February’s CicLAvia will take place in Canoga Park, Winnetka and Reseda and is open to people-powered vehicles including bicycles, roller skates and skateboards. Free basic bike repair, bike parking and pedicab rides are available.
