LOS ANGELES — In addition to the 400 permanent ballot drop boxes the Los Angeles County Registrar installed last year before the presidential election, Metro is hosting 10 vote-by-mail drop boxes to accept ballots in the Sept. 14 gubernatorial election.

Ballots for the upcoming recall election have already been mailed. Metro installed the temporary drop boxes to make it more convenient for voters.

On Election Day, Metro will also provide free rides on its trains, buses and bike share. Travelers can take the train for free from 12 a.m. to 11:50 p.m. Sept. 14. Already, buses are not collecting fares. Bike shares are free for the first 30 minutes and $1.75 for every 30 minutes afterward.

The rides are part of a 2019 decision from the Metro Board of Directors to permanently offer free transit on federal and state election days.
