EL SEGUNDO, Calif. – For the first time researchers have found a biological basis for why seniors are at an increased risk for scams.

Older adults experience more atrophy and less connectivity in two key areas of the brain that may make it harder to navigate social situations.

Nearly one in 20 seniors can expect to be financially exploited beyond the age of 60.

Los Angeles City Attorney Mike Feuer joined us in the studio to discuss this issue.

“It is so important that all our senior viewers and our loved ones pay attention to this. As we get older two parts of our brain in particular decline. One is the part of the brain that identifies what’s happening in your immediate surroundings. The other is a part of the brain that helps you get cues about the intentions of people around you and other social cues.”
