CLEVELAND, Ohio — How fickle the NBA can be, how quickly things change in the league from one game to the next.

What You Need To Know

  • Anthony Davis, after an unremarkable game against Dallas, blisters Cleveland for 32 points and 13 rebounds

  • Austin Reaves had 15 points and 10 assists, part of an impressive overall team effort of 34 assists

  • Max Christie, in only his second NBA start, helped limit Cleveland All-Star Donovan Mitchell to one of 10 shooting in second half

  • The Lakers (10-7) won their third consecutive road game to improve to 3-5 away from Crypto.com Arena

Lakers center Anthony Davis was an utter non-factor Wednesday against Dallas, going scoreless in the second half while registering one shot in the fourth quarter of the Lakers loss.

Then came Saturday.

Davis thoroughly dominated and had an excellent interior defense, scoring 32 points to push the Lakers past the Cleveland Cavaliers, 121-115, while successfully starting a four-game road trip.

Davis scored 23 points in the second half against the respected big-man tandem of Jarrett Allen and Evan Mobley.

“He just was in attack mode, like it was the play to be made,” Lakers Coach Darvin Ham said. “It was great to see him step up and provide that scoring punch.”

Davis had an on-court interview immediately after the game and another one 20 minutes later with reporters in the locker room. Both times, he acknowledged that more plays than usual were called for him.

“Recognition from the coaches tonight, ‘OK, we’re going to get him the ball,’ ” Davis told the group of reporters.

Davis wasn’t just a difference-maker on offense, making 13 of 20 shots. He had 13 rebounds, three blocked shots and two steals.

“A.D. was big-time tonight for us,” Lakers forward LeBron James said, outlining the importance of purposely involving Davis on offense. “Just being conscientious about finding him…it’s that simple.”

Davis wasn’t the only Lakers player with key contributions.

Austin Reaves continued to pull out of an early-season funk with 15 points and a season-high 10 assists. The Lakers compiled an impressive 34 assists as a team.

Max Christie scored 12 points in his second NBA start but, more importantly, played strong defense down the stretch against Cleveland All-Star Donovan Mitchell, who missed nine of 10 shots in the second half.

“We gave him a shout-out after the game,” Ham said. “The more minutes he gets, the more comfortable he gets.”

James scored 22 points, but it wasn’t easy in a game where he missed eight of nine from the three-point range.

The victory was even more impressive considering the Lakers went without four key injured players: Cam Reddish (sore groin), Jarred Vanderbilt (heel bursitis), Gabe Vincent (sore knee) and Rui Hachimura (nasal fracture).

The Cavaliers could also claim short-handed status after losing guard Darius Garland in the second quarter because of a neck injury.

Mitchell scored 22 points but almost all were from the free-throw line on a night where he made only four of 18 attempts from the floor.

Allen led the Cavaliers (8-8) with 21 points and 14 rebounds.

The Lakers (10-7) won their third consecutive road game to improve to 3-5 away from Crypto.com Arena. They continue their road trip Monday in Philadelphia.
