NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. — A woman from Placentia is the first person from the U.S. to become a World Lawn Bowling Champion in the singles division.

Anne Nunes beat out over two dozen women from around the world to become the first American to win the title at the 2023 Bowls World Championship.

Nunes is now training for the Bowls U.S. National Championship in Florida. She trains at the Newport Harbour Lawn Bowling Club after work, on weekends and whenever she can between her daytime job as an aerospace engineer.
