EL SEGUNDO, Calif. — LeBron James returned and, in a related story, the Lakers were no longer the only NBA team without a victory on the road this season.

The Lakers beat the San Antonio Spurs despite another rough third quarter, 105-94, as James made sure they would win the final one Friday in San Antonio.

James scored 11 of his 21 points in the fourth quarter after missing five games because of an adductor strain.

“Another scorer, another playmaker, another voice on the floor,” Lakers center Anthony Davis told Spectrum SportsNet. “Having him is always good for the team.”

If there was one negative for James, it was his nine turnovers on a night the Lakers had 22 as a team.

“Obviously there’s gonna be some rust there,” Lakers Coach Darvin Ham said. “He’ll correct his mistakes. He’ll definitely self-correct.”

“My rhythm, my timing was off on some of my passes. I’ll be a lot better obviously as the games go on. But felt pretty good getting back out there with my guys on the court,” said James.

The Lakers (6-11) held an emphatic 59-41 halftime lead, holding the Spurs to two three-pointers while punishing them on offense as well. But the Spurs (6-14) didn’t go away as the Lakers had another predictably bad third quarter.

In fact, the Lakers’ lead shrunk to three early in the fourth quarter. James made sure the Lakers wouldn’t lose from there.

He scored back-to-back fastbreak buckets to make it 90-78 near the midpoint of the fourth quarter. Then he added a baseline dunk in the final minutes off a pass from Davis.

“Fourth quarter’s always been my favorite. That’s winning time, that’s closing time,” James said.

James said there was a “strong possibility” he’d play Saturday in a quick rematch with the Spurs.

“I just sat out for two weeks. I’m good,” he added.

Davis continued to dominate and scored 25 points on sublime 10-of-13 shooting. He scored eight points in the fourth quarter and had 15 rebounds on the night.

After getting outscored in the third quarter, 34-20, the Lakers put the game away down the stretch.

“We came back out in the fourth quarter and turned it up,” Davis said.

Lakers guard Lonnie Walker IV scored 18 points in his return to San Antonio, where he played the first four years of his career.

Starting point guard Pat Beverley sat out while serving the first night of a three-game suspension for shoving Phoenix center DeAndre Ayton toward the end of Tuesday’s game. Beverley hasn’t scored consistently with the Lakers (4.1 points a game on average) but his defense has been solid.

Ham inserted Dennis Schroder into the starting lineup, keeping Russell Westbrook in his reserve role. Schroder responded with nine points and five assists.

All in all, it was a good time for the Lakers to improve to 1-6 on the road. Fourteen of their next 20 games are away from Crypto.com Arena.
