HONOLULU — The Hawaii women’s volleyball team made short work of Cal State Northridge on Friday night to set up one of the true battles of the Big West season.
UH’s 25-15, 25-18, 25-18 sweep of the Matadors at SimpliFi Arena clocked in as the fastest match of the season – a mere 1 hour, 20 minutes – as the Rainbow Wahine (11-6, 8-1 Big West) hit a season-best .381.
The Wahine now host one of the other top two teams in the conference, UC Santa Barbara, at 7 p.m. Saturday. The Gauchos won in four sets at CSUN on Tuesday to keep pace at 8-1, along with Cal Poly.
Hitter Riley Wagoner enjoyed a bounce-back game after hitting in the negative in UH’s first conference loss of the season at Cal Poly last weekend. The junior hitter hit a personal-best .467 with 16 kills and just two errors on 30 swings against the Matadors.
Middle Amber Igiede added 11 kills and an error on 18 attempts (.556).
Libero Tayli Ikenaga returned from a three-match injury absence and posted nine digs, three assists and an ace.
Last-place CSUN (7-15, 2-8) was led by Taylor Orshoff with nine kills on 20 attempts (.300).
