MANHATTAN BEACH, Calif. — Athletes all across the sport spectrum are dealing with the effects of extreme heat, but for beach volleyball players specifically, the potential for sand to reach triple-digit temperatures is a big factor now and especially into the future.

Pro beach volleyball player Jeremy Casebeer speaks with Spectrum News ahead of the AVP Manhattan Beach Open on how the tournament is implementing measures to protect athletes from extreme heat.

The Manhattan Beach Open is also the first stop on the AVP Tour testing out new sustainability measures to reduce their carbon footprint, with the help of waste management environmental solutions provider WM, guiding the AVP Tour to work toward ‘zero waste’ for the first time.
