OCEANSIDE, Calif. — USA Surfing is a nonprofit that governs surfing in the country.

For almost two decades, the same team has led it. But earlier this year, USA Surfing handed the helm over to a new leader.

Brandon Lowery said surfing is a culture with people passionate about helping protect the ocean, environment and community. And he said he hopes the culture is contagious.
