LOS ANGELES (CNS) — The largest crowd for a sporting event in the Los Angeles area since the start of the coronavirus pandemic is expected Saturday evening when Mexico faces Nigeria in a men's exhibition soccer game at the Coliseum.

The listed capacity for the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum is 77,500. A spokesperson for the Los Angeles Football Club told City News Service that a sellout is expected. LAFC is among the partners in staging the match, along with the Mexican soccer federation and Soccer United Marketing. 

The game will be played at maximum capacity without physical distancing. Fans purchasing tickets were required to confirm that at the time of the game they will either have been fully vaccinated, received a negative coronavirus test within 72 hours of the game or agree to wear a mask for the entire game.

The game is the fourth of the Mexican team's U.S. tour in advance of the CONCACAF Gold Cup. Mexico will open play in the championship of the North American, Central American and Caribbean region next Saturday against an opponent to be determined at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

The largest crowd for a sporting event in the Los Angeles area since the start of the pandemic is 52,342 for the Los Angeles Dodgers' 3-1 victory over the San Francisco Giants last Tuesday at Dodger Stadium.
