No Anthony Davis? No problem — barely.

Davis didn’t play against the Chicago Bulls, but the Lakers sweated out a 117-115 victory Friday at Staples Center.

  • Montrezl Harrell was a hurricane down low

LeBron James provided just enough offense, and Montrezl Harrell was a hurricane down low as the Lakers won while Davis sat out because of a sore hip.

James finished with 28 points and seven assists, but the Lakers’ statistical star might have been Harrell, who had 17 points and 14 rebounds off the bench to help push back the Bulls.

It was a shaky defensive effort for the Lakers.

Zach LaVine scored 38 points and had a chance to put the Bulls up by one with 4.7 seconds to play.

But it was only that — a chance. His off-balance 18-footer didn’t connect, and the Lakers (7-3) took the victory.

One night earlier, Harrell experienced his least impactful game with his new team. He played only 18 minutes and had 10 quiet points against San Antonio. That was not the case against Chicago.

He punctured the Bulls with seven offensive rebounds, his most in more than a year.

The Lakers were short-handed from the start because Kentavious Caldwell-Pope joined Davis on the sideline, missing his fourth consecutive game because of a sprained ankle.

Wesley Matthews started in Pope’s spot and made four three-pointers in the third quarter. He finished with 14 points.

The Lakers’ schedule has not been overly challenging, but it gets that way in a hurry.

They play consecutive games in Houston on Sunday and Tuesday, followed by games later this month against New Orleans, Golden State, Milwaukee, Philadelphia, and Boston.
