FONTANA, Calif. — Under normal circumstances, you would never catch the Shaw family washing their car on a Tuesday afternoon.
But it is a big day for Nick Shaw. He was going to watch his Dodgers play in the World Series with hundreds more of the Dodgers faithful at Chavez Ravine.
"That fact you're gonna be around a bunch of other fans, that's gonna be there for the same purpose, that would have been at the game anyway, and just to be able to celebrate, and hopefully bring home that Dodger win is gonna be awesome," Shaw said.
He scrubbed his car to make sure it was picture-perfect to go to the Dodger Stadium parking lot. It's where the team is hosting a World Series drive in watch party, just like they have throughout the postseason. His ticket was given to him by another fan via Twitter.
"We've got people who are willing to just go out there and spend their own money, reach out and send somebody else to do something," Shaw said.
"It's so nice and great to have everybody come together, and the fact we can all meet up and have a good time. It just gives you that fan experience that you would normally get at the game. You're high-fiving everybody, reaching out to everybody, [at] this time we don't get because we can't be at the game."
Instead of having a Dodger dog, he's packed up snacks and went to go pick up his dad so they can go to the drive-in together.
When Shaw arrived at his dad's home, they both knew what a special moment it was for them. After all, Shaw was only eight when the Dodgers last won it all.
"We've been Dodgers fans his whole life. I was a Dodgers fan when they came here in '58, so this is a big thing for me," Nick's father, Glen Shaw, said.
Thirty-two years later, they both know what it's like to be fathers, and as they headed off to Dodger Stadium, both wanting one thing – a Dodgers win.
"My dad and I have always bonded over baseball, so the fact the Dodgers are here in the World Series, and we get the opportunity to see it, it's pretty amazing," Nick Shaw said.
