Fans are remembering Kobe Bryant as a legend, a father, and an icon on what would have been his 42nd birthday.
"The world has never been the same since we lost you," Twitter user Troydan wrote.
Bryant and his daughter Gianna were killed on Jan. 26, along with seven other people when the helicopter they were on board crashed into a fog-covered hillside in Calabasas.
On his birthday on Sunday, remembrances celebrating his life and accomplishments began pouring in as fans recalled his work ethic and Mamba mentality.
They were expected to continue in some places including Orange County, where August 24 had been declared as Kobe Bryant Day after supervisors voted Tuesday. Bryant lived in Newport Beach.
Some remembered the five-time NBA champion, author, and Oscar winner as their hero.
"Heroes come and go but legends are forever," one tweeted.
Others recalled how they learned of his death.
The basketball world also remembered him with the Lakers and others posting videos and photos of themselves with Bryant.
Immediately after Bryant was killed, an outpouring of support was seen from the crash site to the Staples Center, with people congregating at both places in disbelief. Fans traveled for hours to remember Bryant at the house he had built while playing with the Lakers for his entire 20-year career.
Flowers, jerseys, teddy bears, and more were dropped off at the stadium where fans could be seen crying and hugging one another. Most couldn't fathom how his family was copping. Adding their thoughts and prayers were with his wife Vanessa Bryant, his daughters, parents, and sisters.
