The month of April always marks the beginning of a brand new season of Dodgers baseball.

Twenty-five miles south of the stadium, April also marks a tradition 48 years in the making — where Indy cars race over 200 miles an hour, just seconds away from the water in the Long Beach Grand Prix.

This year, the festivities are just around the corner, where over 200,000 people will attend the largest event that Long Beach hosts. Meanwhile, what is the connection back up at Dodger Stadium? Meet Dodgers bench coach and field coordinator Bob Geren.

For nearly every home game, Geren commutes to work in a rather unconventional way: riding his bike to work. It's a 15-mile trek to Chavez Ravine, but not because the 61-year-old is opposed to driving. In fact, driving — especially race cars — is one of Geren’s passions.
