Head up the coast on the 101-freeway, take Exit 85, and explore the charm of Carpinteria, a quintessential beach town that serves up much more than just sand and surf.

Here are the links and notes to all the spots that host Melvin Robert visited:

Rincon Designs Surf Shop

Owned by a Carpinteria native, Rincon Designs has been around since 1980. The shop now occupies two storefronts in the heart of this Santa Barbara County town—one side painted a bright, tropical turquoise with a wooden longboard next to the entrance, and the other side a Western-style facade made of planks and cobblestones.

Robitaille's Fine Candies

Home of the famous Presidential Inauguration Mints. Our unique handmade candies, sugar-free candies, and gigantic selection of packaged candy have been pleasing Santa Barbara County for over 40 years!

The Spot
389 Linden Ave
Carpinteria, CA 93013

Mere steps away from the beach, The Spot is a trusty little shack of a restaurant that all the locals know. Serving up delicious burgers and fries for more than 100 years, The Spot is Carpinteria’s go to for a quick, savory bite.

Carpinteria Bluffs Nature Preserve
5905 Carpinteria Ave
Carpinteria, CA 93013

Get outside and experience the Carpinteria Bluffs Nature Preserve. From the hiking trails there are views north of the Santa Ynez Mountains and south to the Channel Islands. The trail also leads to the bluff’s edge with views down upon the Carpinteria Harbor Seal Rookery — where you can find seals year-round, but females give birth to their pups and wean them from December to May.
