Ron Finley, otherwise known as the "Gangsta Gardener," got into good trouble when he planted fruits and vegetables on the strip of unused dirt near the sidewalk of his home in South Los Angeles, a neighborhood often regarded as a "food desert."

Finley fought city regulations. Now, in Los Angeles, it's legal to create your own sidewalk garden.

Since then, Finley has gone on to become a TED Talk speaker and the subject of the 2015 documentary, Can You Dig This.
