On a hot July evening in 1979, a group of 99 singers came together to perform for the first time as the Gay Men's Chorus of Los Angeles.

Today with over 300 members strong, the chorus has performed all over the world in important venues -- like the recent sold-out show at Carnegie Hall in New York City.

Currently, the chorus is rehearsing for a gala at L.A.'s iconic Disney Hall in August in celebration of both the chorus' 40th anniversary and the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall riots.

The SoCal Scene host Melvin Robert went behind-the-scenes to catch up with this internationally celebrated community of men united in song and community outreach.
