As the Woolsey fire approached the Old Place Restaurant in the Santa Monica Mountains last November, its owner Morgan Runyon took a stand to save the 100 year old building. He had been preparing for a fire for 40 years and when the time came, he fought back the flames as the nearby Peter Strauss Ranch and the Paramount Ranch movie location burned to the ground. Today, The Old Place Restaurant remains intact serving incredible meals as they have been since 1970.

On the latest episode of The SoCal Scene, Melvin Robert pays a visit to the Old Place where Runyon shows him around and invites him to sit down for a meal prepared in the oak-fire flame of the Old Place kitchen grill.
