LOS ANGELES — Venice Beach prepares to welcome up to 50,000 people to the area Memorial Day weekend, including its military celebration of Fleet Week. But with recent high-profile crimes in the area, safety of tourists and residents have come in to question.

Councilmember Traci Park says she is working on beautifying the area while also beefing up safety patrols this summer.
