DEL REY, Calif. — On Tuesday morning, a fire broke out on a cul-de-sac in the Del Rey neighborhood.

Squatters had allegedly been staying on the property, causing major concern for neighbors. Residents say this is the third fire to break out on the vacant lot.

Councilmember Traci Park’s district encompasses Del Rey.

“This morning’s tragic fire in Del Rey was a fatal combination of an absentee owner and trespassers squatting at this site,” Park said in a statement to Spectrum News. “The Department of Building and Safety and LAPD have been actively working to secure these properties, mitigate any risk, and have them red-tagged. We will continue to work with our departments to secure this area.”
