LONG BEACH, Calif. — Over the last three years, the Long Beach Police Department took an average of 25 reports each year of people being drugged while out socializing.

Some of those incidents include reports of sexual assault, although not all according to the Long Beach Police Department.

As a way to combat this, the city of Long Beach is offering free drug test kits through the SipSafe program, to businesses and organization in the city that would like to put them out for customers to take.

The Wicked Wolf Cocktail Lounge in Long Beach is one of the several participating businesses. Business owner Thea Mercouffer says as a woman bar owner, her goal has always been to create a safe space for women.

She does not think her customers will need them at her cocktail lounge but wanted to be an early adopter to allow people access to them. She hopes people will have them on hand if they believe their drink was spiked.

Long Beach businesses who would like to participate can request the kits here.
