WEST RANCHO DOMINGUEZ (CNS) — A man and woman in their 20s were killed early Tuesday morning when their vehicle crashed into a Los Angeles County fire truck.
The crash was reported at 12:32 a.m. at South Avalon and East Compton boulevards near the border of West Rancho Dominguez and Compton, California Highway Patrol Officer Sean Lough told City News Service.
A speeding blue 2004 Chrysler going westbound on Avalon struck the northbound fire truck, which was responding to an emergency call, according to a CHP statement.
The victims inside the Chrysler, who were pronounced dead at the scene, were residents of Signal Hill. The man was 28 years old and the woman was 26.
"As a result of this collision, three other vehicles sustained minor damage, two of which were unoccupied parked cars," the CHP said. "The party in the third vehicle did not sustain any injuries."
Four firefighters inside the fire truck were taken to a hospital for medical evaluation.
The intersection remained closed for hours after the crash.
The CHP's South Los Angeles office urged anyone with information about the accident to call them at 424-551-4000, or, after business hours, to call the CHP's Los Angeles Traffic Management Center at 323-259-3200.
