LOS ANGELES (CNS) — Detectives who arrested a Las Vegas resident in a series of sexual assaults in Los Angeles urged people Monday to contact them if they were victimized by the suspect or if they have information on any crimes he may have committed.
Matthew Werner, 45, was arrested on Feb. 28, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. Werner was being held on $3 million bail, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department reported.
The crimes occurred in the North Hollywood, Mid-City, Hollywood and Woodland Hills area, some dating back to 2015, the LAPD reported.
"Werner, a Massachusetts native, appears to have targeted women using social media and dating applications using various aliases to avoid detection," police said in a statement.
Police released photos of Werner, who is 6 feet tall, weighs 250 pounds, and has blond hair and blue eyes.
"Investigators identified five women whom Werner assaulted within the city of Los Angeles but believe there are others who have yet to come forward," police said. "It is believed the suspect has been involved in additional unreported sexual assaults."
Anyone with information on the case was urged to call the LAPD Operations-West Bureau, Special Assault Section, at 213-473-0447. Tipsters may also call 877-LAPD-247, Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS, or use the website www.lacrimestoppers.org.
