LOS ANGELES — Across the country, cities have seen a rising number of cyclists being hit by cars. According to the latest report by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, bicyclist fatalities across the country went up 5% from 2020 to 2021 and 9% the year before.

In Los Angeles, city officials have been taking steps to ensure the safety of cyclists on the streets and in parks. Last week, a temporary car ban on a section of Griffith Park Drive was made permanent.
