LOS ANGELES (CNS) — Four people were injured Tuesday when a car crashed onto a sidewalk and into a homeless encampment in the Koreatown area after colliding with another vehicle at an intersection.

The crash was reported about 6 a.m. in the 500 block of South Virgil Avenue. Firefighters freed one person who was trapped beneath the vehicle, the Los Angeles Fire Department reported.

Three people in the car also were injured, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

Paramedics took the four injured people to a hospital, one in moderate condition and three in fair condition, the LAFD reported.

According to the LAPD, a car that was southbound on Virgil Avenue collided with a vehicle that was eastbound on Fifth Street.

The car then crashed onto the sidewalk and into an encampment, where it hit a homeless man who was asleep on a sofa, pinning him beneath the vehicle, according to the LAFD and reports from the scene.

No arrests have been reported, but the crash remains under investigation, according to the LAPD.
