ARCADIA, Calif. (CNS) — A woman was killed Saturday in a car-to-car shooting on the eastbound Foothill (210) Freeway in Arcadia, and part of the freeway was shut down for nearly nine hours while the California Highway Patrol investigated the death.
Witnesses began calling the CHP at 9:06 a.m. to report a solo vehicle crash involving a black Mercedes-Benz at the Baldwin Avenue off-ramp to the eastbound freeway, CHP Officer Vince Ramirez told City News Service.
"A car-to-car shooting had occurred," Ramirez said. A woman about 40 years old was pronounced dead at the scene. The Mercedes crashed into the right shoulder sound wall as a result of the shooting, he said. She suffered at least one gunshot wound.
There was no one else in the vehicle "that I know of," Ramirez said.
No description of the suspect's vehicle was immediately available.
A Sigalert was issued at 9:30 a.m. closing all lanes of the eastbound freeway at Rosemead Boulevard for the crime scene investigation. Traffic was routed off at Michillinda Avenue.
The HOV and No. 1 lanes were reopened about 3 p.m., the CHP said. The remaining lanes were reopened just after 6 p.m.
The CHP asked anyone who saw anything unusual in the area at the time of the shooting or had any other information to call Officer Carlos Martinez at 323-353-8381.
