LOS ANGELES (CNS) — Los Angeles Police Department Chief Michel Moore was released from a hospital Tuesday following an overnight stay for an undisclosed medical issue.

LAPD announced Moore's release from County-USC Medical Center in a statement about 5 p.m., saying he "appreciates the expressions of support that he has received."

The chief posted on Twitter shortly after, offering "thanks & appreciation to the outstanding medical staff at USCMC."

"Truly dedicated and caring professionals," Moore wrote. "I'm grateful to be at home as well as to the outpouring of kinds words & encouragement. Please keep in your prayers our colleagues hospitalized (fighting) for their lives."

No further details were provided about his condition.

According to the LAPD, the 60-year-old Moore "was not feeling well and transported himself" to the hospital on Monday.

An LAPD representative declined to elaborate.

"He was admitted last night (Monday) for testing and observation," according to the department. "Chief Moore is in great spirits and appreciates your well-wishes and support. To respect his privacy, the department will not be commenting further."

Moore has been with the LAPD since 1981, progressively working his way up the ranks, becoming a deputy chief in 2004, then assistant chief in 2010. He became first assistant chief in 2016, and was sworn in as chief by Mayor Eric Garcetti on June 27, 2018.
