EL SEGUNDO, Calif. — Gov. Gavin Newsom opened up exclusively to Spectrum News on Wednesday about a variety of issues California is facing, including homelessness and the recent backlash amid Pride Month.

Newsom recently met with Long Beach Mayor Rex Richardson, along with formerly unhoused people who used to camp at MacArthur Park and are now in temporary housing. The city received $1.3 million from the state to help relocate people experiencing homelessness.

The governor celebrated Pride Nite at Disneyland on Tuesday to show solidarity with California's LGBTQ+ community.

"I'm sickened by the assault on the community," he told Spectrum News.

During the interview, Newsom explained why he doesn’t support banning encampments near schools at a statewide level. He also touched on the latest regarding the migrants who Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis recently sent to California.
