LOS ANGELES — The bipartisan Safer Communities Act just signed by President Biden closes the "boyfriend" loophole, restricting domestic violence offenders from purchasing guns.

It also incentivizes red flag laws across the country, allowing law enforcement or family members to get a court order temporarily removing guns from someone considered at risk to themselves or others.

A local clinical psychologist and communications lead for the California Moms Demand Action movement spoke with Spectrum News about why the new law is considered a big win locally.
