Former Congressman Doug Ose has announced he will be dropping out of the California gubernatorial recall race after suffering a heart attack over the weekend.

"While at home on Sunday evening, I experienced the sudden onset of concerning medical symptoms," said Ose in a statement. "I immediately called 911 and was transported by ambulance to Mercy General Hospital where I was ultimately treated for a heart attack."

Ose was one of several GOP candidates running to unseat Gov. Gavin Newsom in next month's recall election.

"I remain committed to the success of our state, and steadfast in my belief that new leadership is required to bring back OUR California," said Ose in a statement.

The former Republican congressman from California's 3rd congressional district said doctors told him to expect a full recovery.

This is a developing story. We will update it as more information becomes available.
