LAGUNA BEACH, Calif. — For Dr. Gary Lefebvre, the Laguna Beach Democratic Club Christmas party was about much more than a good time. This group has one mission: Keeping Orange County blue in 2020.

“What was the impetus behind this movement was the last Presidential election. When Trump won, that changed the lives of a lot of people,” Lefebvre said. “Many people who are here tonight had very little political involvement prior to the 2020 election.”

So, now they are raising money to rent a storefront property, which will be used as campaign home base to keep their democratic advantage. Prior to 2016, the area was all red. But now, there are 12,000 more Democrats than Republicans in Orange County.

“It really took a group of people working together at a grassroots level, going door to door taking this campaign to the streets,” Lefebvre continued.

Until there is one presidential candidate, they are working together on behalf of all Democrats despite different allegiances in the primaries.

“But at the end of the day the Democrats are good at looking at the majority, listening to the people and working together as a group. So, we leave our egos at the door,” Lefebvre added. “We work together and we’ve been very successful.”

They hope a united front will help them dance to victory when voters step to the polls next November.
