EL SEGUNDO, Calif. – In what could politely be called a longshot, Manhattan Beach attorney Matt Matern is another of the lesser-knowns throwing his hat into the ring in 2020 presidential election. The catch? Matern is running as a Republican.

The local attorney is hopeful he can wrest his party's nomination away from Donald Trump, despite the president enjoying a near 90 percent approval rating among Republicans.

Matern dropped by Spectrum News 1 and explained how we saw his path to the nomination to anchor Chris Leary.

Last week Matern was in New Hampshire to register for the nation's first presidential primary.
