RALEIGH, N.C. — African American voters will play a major role in the upcoming election.

A Pew Research Center report shows 83% of Black voters align with the Democratic Party.

More than 77% of those registered voters said they leaned more toward President Joe Biden over former President Donald Trump.

Spectrum News 1 asked voters if they believe Vice President Kamala Harris could influence African American voters now that she is a leading candidate for president.

Women from North Carolina joined nearly 45,000 women from across the country on a Zoom call Sunday night organized by the group Win With Black Women. The goal was to show support for Harris’ campaign.

“It was a very uplifting call. There were a number of celebrities on there. There were a number of Congresswomen on like (Texas U.S. Rep) Jasmine Crockett. I’m wearing her shirt today,” said Aniesia Williams. who was on that call.

Wake County Association of Teen Democrats adviser Camille Kauer has attended several of the Biden-Harris campaign events that have come to North Carolina. She said some people are comparing this historic moment to when Hillary Clinton ran for president and won the popular vote but didn’t get enough electoral votes.

“I think some people felt with Hillary, well we have no other choice, let’s go with her as opposed to this time around people are excited about that,” Kauer added.

Pew reveals half of Black voters said they would have replaced Biden and Trump.

Williams says although she supported Biden before he dropped out the race, the possibility of seeing a woman of color become the president of the United States gives her something to look forward to.
