LOS ANGELES — Even though California is a safe haven for the LGBTQ+ community, a new report says that hate crimes are increasing in the state.

Between 2021 and 2022, hate crimes motivated by a person’s sexual orientation rose by 29% according to California’s State of Pride Report.

The report issued by California attorney general Rob Bonta also shows that crimes motivated by anti-transgender bias in 2022 also increased by 55%.

But despite the rise in hate crimes, one local bookstore is showing resilience following multiple attacks, with the owner of the store continuing to provide a safe haven for LGBTQ+ community members.
