POMONA, Calif. — Pomona High School students are leading the charge when it comes to dismantling the harmful stigma associated with mental health.

Through their innovative peer counseling program, students are providing invaluable support to their peers as they navigate their mental health journeys. Carmen Ayala, a senior at Pomona High, is an example of the positive impact of the program.

Growing up, mental health was a taboo subject in her family, but now she is using her own experiences to assist other students in their times of need.

Ayala’s dedication to helping her fellow peers was highlighted recently when she provided vital support to a student going through a dark period.

By openly discussing mental health and offering a helping hand, Pomona High School students are fostering a supportive environment that encourages others to seek help during life’s challenges.
