ARCADIA, Calif. — Researchers at UC Irvine found that California’s trees are dying and may not be coming back.

Since 1985, rising temperatures and wildfires have caused a 6% to 7% decline in the mountain tree cover across the state.

The starkest decline is happening in Southern California, with a 14% reduction in tree cover.
