LOS ANGELES — As if there wasn’t already enough excitement for this year’s Super Bowl halftime show, a teaser trailer came out and sent people into fandemonium.

Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Mary J. Blige and Kendrick Lamar assembled.

Rapper and Grammy nominee D Smoke calls this lineup the mount Rushmore of the west. We caught up with him as he drove from the Bay Area to Southern California for an upcoming Los Angeles performance.

“To have them together is going to be a treat for sure,” he said.

The excitement from this video — viewed now almost 10 million times — is palpable, with people saying the “rap gods” are coming together. There is also excitement from the performers themselves, who have a total of 43 Grammys and 22 No. 1 albums between them.

Last year, Dre said this very show will be a “cultural moment.” It’s a cultural moment D Smoke can’t believe hasn’t happened sooner.

“It’s long overdue to be honest,” he said. “The whole world watches rap.”

It’s significant not just for the genre but also for his native LA.

“They can speak on behalf of hip-hop culture because they’re grown in the real streets on LA,” he said.

It’s an exciting moment for LA, rap fans and the entire genre, and while details remain hush hush, it’s a show promising a good time.
