A pop, rock and funk icon and legend as much posthumously as alive, Prince’s unreleased 2010 album, “Welcome 2 America,” will finally be released Friday, July 30.

Recorded 11 years ago, the tracks that comprise “Welcome 2 America” were culled from among thousands of other songs that were discovered in the vault at Paisley Park, Prince’s Chanhassen, Minnesota, studio and home, following his death in 2016.

The album tackles systemic issues that are still prevalent today, including racial injustice and cultural and religious divisions.

“Welcome 2 America” will be the first full project unearthed from Prince’s legendary vault, instead of just outtakes and alternate versions of his other classic albums. This upcoming album consists of funky pop and political commentary.

According to Rolling Stone, the album was discovered last year, around the time of George Floyd’s death and the Black Lives Matter movement it propelled into the national spotlight. With the pandemic, the project was stalled until this year to be released.
