BRADBURY, Calif. (CNS) — A 17-year-old girl saved her family's four small dogs from a brown bear and two cubs that were walking on top of a block wall behind a house in Bradbury by pushing the bear off the wall, grabbing one of the dogs and shooing the rest inside the home.

Video of the Memorial Day incident posted on social media shows the large bear snatching one of the dogs and the teen sprinting over to shove the bear, which dropped the dog, and stumbled backward off the wall.

"I was like, 'Oh, my God, there's a bear and it is taking my dog," Hailey Morinico, 17, told reporters.

Morinico said her instincts kicked in and she rushed in to confront the bear. She later told local media she didn't realize it was a bear until after she pushed it.

As the bear lost its balance on the wall, it dropped the dog, which Morinico scooped up as she ran toward the home.

The bear hopped back on the wall and scampered off in the opposite direction.

Morinico sustained a sprained finger on a hand, but all the dogs were saved.

Wildlife experts say confronting a bear is dangerous and it is better to remain in the house.
