MILWAUKEE (SPECTRUM NEWS) — President Donald Trump tweeted Wednesday afternoon that he is sending federal assistance to Wisconsin after three straight nights of protests.
Trump said he spoke with Gov. Tony Evers and is sending federal law enforcement and the National Guard to Kenosha. He said he wants to restore "law and order."
U.S. Rep. Mike Gallagher, R-Wis., tweeted shortly after that this is the "right call" for the Governor to reconsider to accept federal assistance.
Authorities said two people were killed and a third was seriously wounded in a shooting during the third night of unrest in the city.
In a statement, Evers said he authorized 500 members of the Wisconsin National Guard to support local law enforcement in Kenosha County Wednesday night. On Tuesday, in addition to declaring a state of emergency, Evers authorized increasing Wisconsin National Guard support for Kenosha County to 250 members.
