Beaches are closed and restaurant seating is scarce following Gov. Newsom's order to shut down indoor dine-in service. Even so, about 300 communities in California are permitting the sale of state-approved fireworks. For those communities that don't, there are still plenty of events to entertain the family this Fourth of July holiday weekend. 
 
In light of the resurgent coronavirus pandemic, many events have gone virtual this year. There's still no shortage of entertainment options for you and your family this weekend. 
 

Grand Park and The Music Center's Virtual Fourth of July

Grand Park and the Music Center are teaming up to host the 8th annual Fourth of July Block Party, which has gone virtual. Watch live on Grand Park’s YouTube channel from 8-10 p.m. More info.

 

Apple Valley Freedom Festival Fireworks

In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, Apple Valley has canceled the annual Freedom Festival, but the fireworks will still go on. Fireworks will be staged at nearby Brewster Park to prevent on-site viewing. More info.

 

Pacific Symphony's Virtual 4th of July Spectacular

Pacific Symphony will hold a virtual free Independence Day concert featuring patriotic favorites such as John Williams' "Midway March," "76 Trombones" from The Music Man, and Lee Greenwood's "Stars and Stripes Forever." The concert will feature a virtual fireworks finale. More info.

 

Tribeca Drive-In at the Rose Bowl

The Pasadena Rose Bowl will be hosting the Tribeca Drive-In Theater starting July 2 through Aug. 2. Films will show Thursdays-Sundays. This weekend's features include Jaws, E.T. the Extraterrestrial, Apollo 13, Field of Dreams, Space Jam, and The Wizard of OzMore info.

 

Village Runner’s 27th Annual 5k

The annual 5K run will be virtual this year in an effort to maintain social distancing measures. All participants can pick up their t-shirt, race bib and other items curbside, and are encouraged to run in their neighborhoods. More info.

 

Marina del Rey Water Bus Ride

Dockweiler Beach fire pits and RV park are still closed due to COVID-19, but Marina del Rey invites guests to explore on their WaterBus, with July Fourth hours being 10 a.m.-6 p.m., the same as their regular weekend hours. More info.

 

Marina del Rey Farmers Market

Correction: The farmers market was canceled for July 4 and will resume July 11.

You can visit the Marina del Ray Farmers Market on the Fourth of July either during their designated senior hour from 8-9 a.m. or for the general public from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. More info.

 

Eaton Canyon Natural Area Hikes

You can reserve your spot to access the Eaton Canyon Natural Area and trail system for a beautiful hike and day outside. But timed entry reservations are required. More info.

 

Drive-Up Fourth of July Fireworks Spectacular

The cities of Los Alamitos and Seal Beach will hold a Drive-Up Fourth of July Fireworks Spectacular at the Los Alamitos Joint Forces Training Base on Saturday. The fireworks will begin about 9 p.m. More info.

Apple Valley will host a show at 9 p.m., but is asking people watch from home or from their vehicles. More info.

 

Fireworks Spectacular 

Agua Caliente Resort Casino Spa Rancho Mirage will host a fireworks display at 9 p.m. People are being asked to arrive early as vehicle space is limited and face coverings will be required. More info.
