SOUTH LOS ANGELES – We first met DJ L-Double-E in April of 2019 as he played a special tribute set to the late Nipsey Hussle in Hollywood. A year later, on the one-year anniversary of the Hussle’s tragic death, there can be no public tribute because of the coronavirus.

It’s why L-Double-E was appreciative of a special Instagram live memorial performed by Nipsey’s official DJ.

“I go by DJ VIP. All Money In. We’re doing this for Nip Hussle right now. We’re celebrating his life his music his legacy,” DJ VIP told his audience on IG Live.

“I’m sure it was hard for him, but he just came through and laid it. Track after track, after track,” DJ L-Double-E said.

Unlike many of Hussle’s loyal fans, especially those in South LA, L-Double-E had an up close and personal relationship with DJ VIP and Hussle, as he performed with other artists while on tour with Hussle. It was Hussle who encouraged his entrepreneurship and community involvement.

He says those are the ways people have continued the marathon.

“A lot more people taking initiative. People are involved in every day politics now especially as millennials. It’s super important we get out there and vote,” he explained.

For L-Double-E, it’s the business mindset Hussle preached about that is keeping him afloat right now, with no DJ gigs available.

“I’m just thankful I’m in a position and relationship you know to still live life and not necessarily worry too much about the financial aspect,” he said.

It’s a scary time for many and an emotional time remembering a South L.A. legend. So, a night of celebrating Hussle's music is the soundtrack of inspiration during a time we all need some.
