HAWTHORNE, Calif. — WWE superstar Daria Berenato trained at MMA for years at Coast Fitness in Hawthorne before she became known as Sonya DeVille.

“It’s like being home again, you know?” said Berenato.

Berenato came to California to be a professional fighter and her dreams have come true. You can see her on Friday Night SmackDown on FOX. She was also cast on Total Divas. The reality series on E! gives viewers an inside look at the lives of female WWE wrestlers.

Berenato got her start on the reality competition series Tough Enough. Though she didn’t win, it was still life changing. That’s where her coming out story unfolded.

“It was a little bit scary, but it ended up being one of the best things I could have ever done because the moment I said it out loud it almost made me like live it more so, like be more honest with myself,” said Berenato.

One of the judges on the show asked her if she was in a relationship. She answered honestly and told them about her girlfriend. Until then it was something only her parents knew.

“First I ran upstairs and I was freaking out to all the other contestants and I was like, 'Oh my God, oh my God.' And they’re like, 'What’s wrong?' And I was like, 'I think I just came out on national television,' and they were like, 'Wait, you’re gay?' And I was like, 'Yeah and they’re like, 'Oh my god we didn’t even know,'” said Berenato.

Berenato got a small rainbow tattoo behind her ear almost a year ago. She carries it into each and every ring, a symbol of the fight she’s already won.

The season finale of Total Divas is Tuesday night at 10 p.m. on E!
