GARDENA, Calif. – LV Bunkley-Shelton has seen his last days as a Serra High School football player, now that their season has come to an end.

He is one of the top wide receivers in not just the city, but the nation and was he named an All-American.

“It’s been a real joy. I love it here. They know I train outside of the school so they have no problem with me playing, just being me,” LV Bunkley-Shelton said.

Now, with the help of his parents he must make the biggest decision of his life. He has received over 25 offers from some of the college biggest football programs in the nation like Notre Dame, Ohio state, Michigan, and University of Southern California.

Despite the pressure of the decision, mom and dad are taking the hands-off approach.

“I feel like this is his choice because he will be going to that school for four years while we’re here in California,” his mother, Daisy Shelton said.

“It will definitely be his choice but we’ll have some input,” added father, Michael Shelton.

No matter where he chooses, his parents are making one thing clear - academics will be a major part of his college experience.

“There’s life after football. You can’t play football forever, even if he’s blessed to go to the NFL or something like that,” Michael Shelton said.

They said they knew their son was going to be special from youth football days.

“He actually had a future playing this game. That he could actually go to school for free, playing a game that he loves to play,” said Michael Shelton.

While education is paramount for them in the decision. For the player it is all about football.

“Plain and simple, any school that can give me a chance, a fighting chance to start as a freshman,” LV Bunkley-Shelton said.

While the why may differ in this football family, they all can agree a life-changing choice is coming.

“The selfish side wants him to stay close but if he wants to go far, I’m with it,” said Michael Shelton.

As everyone awaits his decision, LV will be preparing to play in the All-American Bowl on January 4, in Texas where the best high school players in the country all get to showcase their skills.
