SANTA CLARITA, Calif. – A student who was shot and survived the deadly Saugus High School shooting has been released from the hospital, according to her family.

The 14-year-old female student was injured when a fellow student opened fire on campus on November 14 just before 8 a.m. The shooting lasted 16 seconds and left two students dead.

Fearing for their lives, students texted messages to their families saying “I love you if anything happens, just know I love you.” Aerial images from the shooting showed backpacks littered across the front lawn of the school after students fled to seek shelter, with many of them barricading themselves in classrooms.

In the wake of the shooting, a memorial has been growing at Central Park across from the school. Community members gathered over the weekend to honor the lives of 15-year-old Gracie Muelberger and 14-year-old Dominic Blackwell.

“We all take life for granted sometimes, and we're not very thankful for it. And when in reality we should be thankful for every day we wake up and breath,” said Saugus student Maximus Gardette.

The family of the injured student said she is now home recovering. In a statement released by the family they said:

"We are grateful for the incredible outpouring of thoughts and prayers expressed by our family, friends and the Santa Clarita community. We join with our neighbors in grieving the terrible loss that has impacted so many."

GoFundMe account has been created to raise funds towards grief counseling at the school for students.
