WESTMINSTER, Calif. — Members of Westminster-United, a community group, announced Tuesday evening that they are taking a big leap forward in their recall effort against Mayor Tri Tam, Council member Kimberly Ho, and Council member Chi Charlie Nguyen.

The group turned in their petitions with more than 11,000 signatures for the city clerk to verify on Monday. In a document released by the group at the press conference, the group participants listed 28 different reasons why they believe the council majority should be recalled.

Supporters of the recall needed to collect signatures from 20 percent of Westminster’s registered voters which is a total of 8,736 for each official.

The group is accusing Ta, Nguyen, and Ho of committing “unethical actions, corruption, nepotism, favoritism, lack of critical thinking, fiscal mismanagement and incompetence.”

David Johnson, the spokesman for Westminster United, led the press conference. He says the group members are made up of people from different walks of life and are all invested in their city. He believes the city clerk could be finished verifying the signatures this week and will send all the signatures for validation to the Orange County Registrar of Voters office.

The Registrar will have 30 business days to complete the validation process before adding the mayor and council members names to an upcoming election ballot where registered voters will make a choice between recalling or not recalling the council majority.
